Just found this interesting V12 Roadster article on a South African car site.
Daytona cars in South Africa apparently received #001 of the 101 V12 Vantage Roadsters.
Here’s a quote from Daytona Group general manager Rens Rademeyer:
“Whenever there is a limited-edition model you always hope you get one with a really low number – and secretly dream of getting the first one off the line. So you can imagine our excitement when we received our limited-edition model V12 Vantage Roadster and found it was No.1 of 101!”
Wait what?? Is he really saying he just happened to received #001 ?
That is just very unlikely. When I ordered my V12 Vantage Roadster back in June 2012 (within 15 minutes of receiving the first announcement!), I immediately tried to reserve either #001 or #007. Alas, both were already spoken for. So I opted for #002 and as you know, I received my Cobalt Blue Agent #002 in November 2012, one of the first V12 Roadsters created.
I don’t know what the story is here, but I do know that getting #001 certainly wasn’t just good luck. Also, if they just received their V12 Vantage Roadster this month, it also wasn’t “the first one off the line” (unless it took 3 months to get to South Africa).
UPDATE:
Another article on a South African news site I just found seems to indicate that this car has not even been sold to an actual customer yet:
“If you are looking for a great investment, this is the car for you. Number 1 always holds a much greater value than any other. So, if you’re serious and got the dosh, then give Rens a call.”
So basically the “plaque number preference” of a dealer pre-ordering a car for inventory got priority over an actual customer ordering his 4th Aston Martin… nice …
